Trichomonas Testing in Tulsa
Trichomoniasis is a very common STD caused by a parasitic protozoan called Trichomonas vaginalis. It is easily treated with regular antibiotic medications.
Both men and women can be infected with trichomonas, although it’s more common in women. The CDC estimates that up to 70% of people who are infected may not show symptoms at all. Those who do might experience distressing symptoms including:
Genital discharge which may be white, gray, yellow, green or frothy
Foul smelling discharge, often described as a fishy odor
Difficulty urinating, urinary frequency, or painful urination
Burning or itching of the penis or vagina
In addition, men and women infected with trichomoniasis may experience pain during intercourse. Men may have testicular pain or painful ejaculation.
Trichomoniasis is easily treated with common antibiotics. However, re-infection with Trichomonas vaginalis is common. This may happen if you have multiple partners or if you have an infected partner who is not treated. It’s important to test and treat all sexual partners to prevent re-infection.
