Chlamydia Testing in Tulsa
Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia) is a bacterial infection that is transmitted through sexual contact with an infected person. It is one of the most common STIs in Oklahoma, and the number of infected individuals continues to rise across the nation.
Chlamydia infections are treatable with antibiotic medications. However, repeat infections are possible even after successful treatment. In fact, re-infection with chlamydia is common. Co-infection is also common. This means individuals with chlamydia may be infected with more than one STI at the same time.
Persons infected with chlamydia may experience uncomfortable symptoms, or they may have no symptoms at all. Persons who have active chlamydia infection can spread the disease, even if they are not experiencing symptoms of illness. It’s important to get tested after a known exposure, even if you don’t feel sick. Persons with multiple sex partners may also consider routine screening.
Symptoms that might indicate an infection with chlamydia include:
- Leakage or discharge from the penis or vagina
- Genital itching or burning
- Burning or pain with urination
- Painful intercourse
- Pain or swelling in one or both testicles
Having chlamydia may place you at increased risk for other STIs. It is recommended that persons who test positive should also get tested for gonorrhea, HIV and syphilis.
Rapid Result Lab performs highly accurate PCR testing for chlamydia with same day results. In addition, we will call in a prescription to your pharmacy if you test positive.
